Horne Lake Real Estate
One of the larger lakes in the Central Vancouver-Nanaimo area, Horne Lake offers exclusive lakefront and scenic properties and a quiet lifestyle, that some describe as more "off the grid." Real estate is limited and includes gorgeous waterfront cottages and, on occasion, plots of vacant land. With both bungalow and multi-storey options (with more square footage), properties in Horne Lake are typically summer cottages that can be rented out.
In general, cottages on Horne Lake are more traditional in style, with wooden beam interiors and/or accents being popular choices. Additionally, propane wall furnaces and docks are common, with direct water access being one of the most desirable features of a Horne Lake cottage.
Horne Lake Lifestyle
Tranquil and secluded, residents of Horne Lake enjoy the great outdoors. With cottages possessing tons of natural light, boat slips, and forested lots, these properties make for the ultimate nature-lovers' getaway.
Boating is one of the most popular activities, with the possibility to launch the boat right off one's property. There is, as well, a boat launch at Horne Lake Regional Park - North Park. Kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming are other popular water activities, particularly at the lake's designated beach areas and campsites.
Top Horne Lake Highlights & Amenities
Horne Lake Regional Park, which is located on the western arm of the lake, attracts a number of campers and outdoor enthusiasts annually. The park itself features a winding trail system and about five kilometers of shoreline (lakefront and riverfront) that visitors can explore. Because of Horne Lake Regional Park is a particular favourite for those who love to kayak and canoe, and they offer small boat rentals for guests of the park. The park is about 260 acres in size.
Beside Horne Lake Regional Park are the Horne Lake Caves—arguably the biggest attraction in the area. This park offers guided tours of the underground cave networks, with different difficulty/depth levels for visitors. The easiest tour of the caves is the one hour Riverbend Cave Explorer tour, which is also suitable for younger kids, and does not have any climbing or tight spaces. The most advanced tour is the Extreme Cave and Rappel tour, and (as its name suggests!) features rappelling down the cave walls in a five hours experience that ends with waterfall and a slide. However, for guests who want to visit the caves but don't want to squeeze through tight spaces or go too far, there are above-ground experiences and self-guided tours, as well hiking trails in the surrounding forest.
The next nearest park is Spider Lake Provincial Park, and nearest large community is Qualicum Bay.
