Nanaimo Luxury Homes

Luxury homes for sale in Nanaimo are designed to impress. Properties on the market often feature large bedrooms and bathrooms and beautifully landscaped grounds, using high-quality materials in their construction. As well, luxury homes are located in desirable neighbourhoods, and many offer sweeping views of the ocean, forest, and/or mountains.

Most single-family luxury homes in Nanaimo are custom-built, so buyers have some choice in architectural styles. Designs include the prevalent West Coast style, which include both single-storey and multiple-storey options. Other architectural styles include Contemporary constructions as well as rustic-chic log homes.

While amenities range from property to property, popular characteristics of Nanaimo's luxury homes include large windows with lots of natural light, large decks and/or balconies, fireplaces, gourmet kitchens, home offices, and multi-car garages. In some of the premier listings, homes can also have hot tubs, swimming pools, boat docks and water access, and guest suites or cottages.

Nanaimo At A Glance

Nanaimo offers the best of both worlds—the conveniences of an urban centre and incredible nature surrounding the city. Popular activities include hiking and golfing, but Nanaimo also offers scuba diving, bungee jumping, and wildlife watching for those who are very adventurous.

Nanaimo typically experiences mild winters and warm summers. This makes it easy to get out and enjoy the fresh air and scenery. Residents can stroll along the rocky beaches and explore the city's forest trails and mountain paths. For residents with young kids or furry friends, Nanaimo also has a number of parks, which include Swy-a-lana Lagoon Park and May Richards Bennett Pioneer Park.

The Nanaimo downtown has a wide selection of restaurants serving cuisine from around the world. Must-try spots include Longwood Brewery, Smokin George's, melange, and Nori Japanese. Additionally, the downtown mixes large, familiar chains with local businesses—perhaps part of the reason why the area has such a thriving arts scene.

Top Nanaimo Highlights & Attractions

With a population of about 100,000 people, Nanaimo is considered to be a smaller city. Despite this, it offers all of the necessities (and more) that residents require. Its a short commute to the downtown core, especially for those who live in desirable neighbourhoods such as the University District or Central Nanaimo. The Old City district showcases a range of boutique shops, restaurants, banks, spas, and more. Nanaimo also hosts a variety of festivals year-round, such as the International Jazz Festival in September and the Seafood Festival in June.

Families will find excellent schools in Nanaimo for children of all ages. There are over 30 public schools in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith statistical area, as well as several independent schools. Nanaimo is also home to the Vancouver Island University campus.

Nanaimo also has its own ferry terminals, which connect to the surrounding islands (Newcastle Island, Protection Island, and Gabriola Island) as well as the mainland. The Departure Bay ferry takes passengers to Horseshoe Bay, which is about a 30-minute drive north of downtown Vancouver.
